- The film approaches fashion education through the portrait of four students over the course of their final year at major French design schools. The narrative principle throughout this crucial final year of school is to juxtapose the paths and the choices of each students on the cusp of his or her professional life. The film will look at the wide variety of careers for which they are destined, simultaneously providing a whole new perspective on the vast panorama of «fashion» and the garment industry. The collection will be composed of six 26-minute episodes, each devoted to an important event in the students’ educations. The back-to-school period, practical exercises, drawing, lectures, outside speakers, runway shows, group visits to exhibitions, and internships in fashion houses will fill up their year. There will also be glimpses of private moments at home, a chance to let them express themselves in a more personal way. The film will be sober, and the camera will remain discreet behind the action, able to capture the various phases the subjects go through: joy, sadness, hope, stress, concentration, doubt, etc… Gradually, the direction of their professional futures will be revealed throughout the episodes, because career path is the main focus at this stage of their education. Participants will speak for themselves, their words as close as possible to reality, without voice-over. The film will be like a vast choral piece, with to-and-fro among the students. The editing will reconstruct the timeline of the last few months in these designers’ lives before they are dubbed new members of the fashion industry...
