Marathon Dok 2011

March 5, 2011. From 14:00 to 22:00. Theodor Christensens Plads 1, Filmskolen, Copenhagen, Denmark

Marathon Dok is a looooong day full of funny, fascinating and fantastic documentaries. This one-day screening program brings new international high quality documentaries to the big screen in the beautiful cinema of the Danish Film School. The screenings start at 14:00 and end at 22:00.

We invite you to sink in one of the cosy theatre seats in the nice atmosphere of The Danish Film School's cinema and have a day surrounded by coffee, colleagues and of course the latest of the best international creative documentaries.

We will start the screenings at 14:00. Warm coffee and refreshments will accompany you for the first block of documentaries screened. We continue showing films until 22:00 with a couple of breaks included to stretch your legs, fill your coffee cups, grab a sandwich and last but not least network with your wonderful colleagues.

Marathon Dok is open for participation to students and professionals from the film and TV industry only.

How to participate

The price for participation is 120 DKK. The participation fee includes all the screenings, coffee, sandwich etc. The participation fee on 120 DKK is paid upon your arrival at the film school on March 5th. Please note that we only accept cash.

In order to participate in Marathon Dok you need to sign up no later than Tuesday, March 1. Please send an email with your name and contact info on all the people registering and write Marathon Dok in the subject line. The program for Marathon Dok will consist of 10 - 12 new documentaries programmed in four screening blocks. Among the films we will screen are:

1st screening block starting at 14:00

Tussilago by Jonas Odell

Anaerobic (Norway, 2010, 4 min) directed & produced by Ørjan Jensen for Supernøtt Popsløyd.

Humorous documentary collage

Doc Next A selection of films from the documentary series Doc Next. We will show the titles: Never Stop Dreaming; Strangers in Wonders; Voice

Homo / Animal (France, 2010, 29 min) by Christophe Loizillon. Produced by Les Films du Rat.

Stylish shortfilm in the territory between fiction and documentary. What do a cow, pig, bear, dog, and two snails think about when confronted by man?

Monster Birthday (Finland, 2009, 12 min) by Marika Väisänen. Produced by Liisa Juntunen for Kinocompany ltd.

Mimmi invites friends to her 7-year birthday party. Will the party help Mimmi conquer her fears?

The Day We Danced on the Moon (Germany, 2011, 11 min) by Tristan Daws. Produced by Stefan Kloos for Kloos & Co.

A warm human portrait of The Channel One Band, a reggae band of mental health patients.

Tussilago (Sweden, 2010, 14 min) by Jonas Odell. Produced by Niklas Adolfsson & Linda Hambäck for Filmtecknarna F. Animation AB.

New animated documentary from Jonas Odell and winner of the Swedish Guldbagge Award for best short film.

A Piece of Summer by Marta Minorow­icz

Doc Next A selection of films from the documentary series Doc Next. We will show the titles: Change; Remembering; All the Sweaters My Mom Bought Me.

A Piece of Summer (Poland, 2010, 23 min) by Marta Minorowicz. Produced by Stowarzyszenie Filmowców Polskich - Studio Munka.

Combining great camera work, well paced editing and a great sense of detail A Piece of Summer tells the story of a boy and his grand father rebuilding their bonds in the surroundings of wild nature. Winner of the Golden Dove Award in the inter­na­tional short doc­u­ment­ar­ies com­pet­i­tion at DOK­Leipzig Fest­ival 2010 and the winner of the Grand Prix at the 33rd edi­tion of Inter­na­tional Short Film Fest­ival in Clermont-​Ferrand.

A special surprise premiere: Like always at Marathon Doc we have arranged a special screening which we announce on the day.

You Don't Like the Truth - 4 Days Inside Guantánamo by Luc Côté & Patricio Henríquez

You Don't Like the Truth - 4 Days Inside Guantánamo (Canada, 2010, 99 min) directed & produced by Luc Côté & Patricio Henríquez for Les Films Adobe.

A documentary based on seven hours of security camera footage from the Guantánamo Bay prison documenting the encounter between a team of Canadian intelligence agents and a child detainee. The documentary delves into the unfolding high-stakes game of cat and mouse between captor and captive over a four day period. Maintaining the surveillance camera style this film analyzes the political, legal and scientific aspects of a forced dialogue. You Don't Like the Truth - 4 Days Inside Guantánamo was awarded the Special Jury Award at IDFA 2010.

Position Among the Stars by Leonard Retel Helmrich

Position Among the Stars (Netherlands, 2010, 109 min) by Leonard Retel Helmrich. Produced by Scarabee Films.

With outstanding camera work and a closeness to the characters gained over 12 years, Leonard Retel Helmrich presents both literally and metaphorically a slice of life in Indonesia. Through the Indonesian Sjamsuddin family he portrays, Helmrich describes a microcosm in which you can recognise the most important issues of modern life in Indonesia: corruption, conflict between religions, gambling addiction, the generation gap and the growing difference between poor and rich. Position Among the Stars was awarded the 201 IDFA Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary & the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Documentary Film at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
